My grandmother Angeline Marie did not get the 1918 influenza, but nursed the rest of her family of four, including my mother Marthe, who all had the influenza. They were all were seriously sick, but all recovered.
They originally lived in a small coal mining town, La Motte-d'Aveillans in France, where my grandfather was a cabinet maker. After he was drafted for WW l , the rest of the family moved to a larger town, Grenoble, France so grandmother could get a job.
Grandfather was wounded, but survived the war. My mother recalls seeing casket-loaded trains coming to town waiting for burials. The caskets contained the war and influenza dead.
My mother lived to 95, dying in 1998.
